 Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy ( LAPT ) is the latest, most cutting edge treatment for early periodontal disease. It combines traditional periodontal debridement techniques ( Scaling and root planing ) with the advantages of using a soft tissue ( Diode ) laser. The advantages to using a laser over traditional instruments only are the extreme precision of the laser to remove only diseased tissue, limit postoperative discomfort, and to provide an optimal environment for rapid healing. The number of visits required for LAPT is determined on a case by case basis. Upon the completion of any treatment for periodontal disease, more frequent visits are recommended for periodontal maintenance and possible LAPT if necessary . For more advance cases where the bone around the teeth has been further lost, Dr.Kelk will recommend surgical periodontal treatment which will give her access to the deeper diseased tissues for treatment .
